54cm Barramundi #953 Maria MJ-1 S110FThe tides were very good!

It was a day of unseasonable cloud and humidity, so the rain turned into a downpour after sunset.

There was something that is unusual.
There were many soldier crabs on the beach at Mindil Beach.

On the other hand, the tides were very good for my land based fishing.
I saw someone caught a nice sized fish and had two good strikings in the morning.

I went home once and back to Myilly Point rocks around 6:30pm.
The tide was going.
The water was clear.
The sea surface was rippled.
The conditions were ideal for my land based fishing.
Firstly, I used Squidgy Pro Mongrel.
Soon I saw barramundi chasing it.
But barramundi was shortsighted and looked twice at a Mongrel.
The lure changing occurred immediately.
I knew that twitching was very effective in the case like this.
As a result, I caught a 54cm urban barramundi on Maria MJ-1 S110F

Barramundi #951-952 Sebile Swingtail Squidgy Pro Mongrel Living near the water for fishing

The tide this evening was ideal for my land based fishing.
Just as I wrote before, East Point was not so good though - the old man's rock and Ben's point become gangerous when the tide becomes greater than 3m.
So I went to Myilly Point to fish.

03:53am 1.97m
10:14am 6.43m
16:23pm 3.04m
21:53pm 5.45m

The water was very clear while the tide was going today.
I went fishing but I couldn't catch any fish at that time.

The productive fishing window came around sunset.
I caught the first barramundi at 6:30pm and the second one at 7:00pm.

The tide was coming.
The water was murky.
The sea surface was wavy.

This location was close to my place.
It took 5minutes by my 8years old 50cc scooter.

It's the Sunday-market day.
I was fishing while many people were enjoying the market noises.

Bad Day of Fishing Beats Good Day at Work

Isn’t there a slogan about a bad day of fishing beats a good day at work? I like my job and it wasn’t really a bad day of fishing on my recent trout fishing outing to the stream near the Crystal Springs Hatchery. Unlike fishing there in the past I never actually caught a trout on this day. I had one small trout hooked and it leaped from the water throwing the lure, something that really is cool to see. A few trout had followed the lure close enough for me to see them.  I remember one evening of fishing this same stream several years ago when there must have been at least two dozen fish that had chased my lure, sometimes a couple of fish at the same time and I actually caught some of those trout.

Catching fish is only a small part of what makes trout fishing enjoyable; there is the splendid scenery, the sound of the water over the rocks, and the challenge of walking through nature’s obstacle course. I felt I did good not to fall down any banks, get stuck in the soft bottom and only trip over one log in the tall grass. The only problem I had was my hip waders are leaking, for some reason about a year of fishing and this happens. To compound to this after getting the wet waders off when I sat down in my car I heard a faint noise, it was my pants ripping.

When I returned to my car there were a husband and wife getting ready to fish. They had come all the way from central Wisconsin and had fished here for many years while camping at a nearby campground. We swapped stories about how it was so much better in the past but also admitted there are days when the fish do not want to bite on anything. If you have been trout fishing for a number of years it is obvious that the water level is lower and many of the deep holes are not near as deep now. I could tell like me, they really enjoyed walking the streams.

Lunch was at a small café in a small town on the way back home. I ate at the counter and one of the local regulars began talking to me almost immediately. He had done some fishing in his day when the streams were really full of fish. He had lived in Winona also and talked about the railroad and the hobos that were looking for a free meal.  Back then he said people were so poor they had to catch fish to have enough to eat, I am glad I didn’t have to depend on my catch for lunch.

Satisfied I had a good day goofing off, it was easier to get some work done around my house when I returned. Just before dark I thought I would just try fishing a new spot for me along Lake Winona which is only a few blocks from my house. After about four casts from shore I felt a really solid tug, as I reeled in the fish it looked too skinny to be a largemouth bass, it was a small northern pike. Now I didn’t have my forceps along and a couple of hooks were deep in the mouth. Northern pike have teeth and will bite given the chance, somehow I managed to get the hooks out and release the fish.

Frozen prawn bait fishing

I just happened to catch a whiting on lure at East Point yesterday.
So I wanted to fish with frozen prawn bait.
It was the first time in a while I fish with bait.

They were fishing with bait.
They caught bream, flathead and whiting.

I couldn't catch any whiting.

Barramundi #950 Queenfish #25 Rockcod #327 Maria MS-1 90F Very clear and cold water.

The tides of May 17 as follows,

05:34am 7.04m
11:34am 2.27m
17:16pm 6.87m
00:00am 0.84m

Today's tides were not so good for my land based fishing.
The water was very clear.
The water becomes colder day by day.

Barramundi are getting bewildered in sudden change of the environment.
The stable water temperature is ideal for my land based fishing.
Even under the condition of a very cold water, they start biting lures once the water temperature became stable again.

There is an exception to this theory.
A small barramundi will sometimes take lures under the condition like this.

I went to Mindil Beach to fish around 8:00am this morning.
Many young people were listening to loud music on the beach.
I went to the rocks near Darwin High School.
Luckily, I caught a barramundi.

And then I went to East Point to fish.
The water was very clear and cold.
I caught a queenfish and two rockcod.
The colour of my lure was selected to be similar to the environment with the very clear water conditions.

By the way, an affectionate Jabiru came to me.

Jabiru wanted to eat my Squidgy Pro Mongrel with Aussie Herring colour.

After all, I gave a whiting I caught to this big bird.

Barramundi #947-948 hrtlures Mad Minnow Match the hatch

The tides on May 12 as follows,

05:36am 2.55m
12:02pm 5.96m
18:50pm 3.25m

The tides were very good for my land based fishing.
Fortunately, there was no moon while I was fishing.
The water was very, very clear.
The sea surface was slightly wavy.
The productive fishing window came around 8:30pm.
It lasted one hour.

It was about this time last year.
I used the same lure at the same place at the same tide.
I think that a barramundi is mainly taking a small mullet or a small whiting in my fishing locations in this season.

Match the hatch
There are exceptions to it, however.
I'm not sure how fish see the colour under the water.
I accept this theory.

Barramundi #945-946 Sebile Swingtail Minnow Only two barramundi's strikings for the weekend

The tides on May 10 as follows,
03:50am 1.71m
10:10am 6.60m
16:13pm 3.03m
21:49pm 5.76m

The tides were very good for my land based fishing in my fishing locations.
Here, it should be noted treatment of my fishing location at East Point.
The old man's rock and Ben's point rocks become dangerous when the tide becomes greater than 3m.
So I went to Mylli Point to fish around 17:00pm.
I saw many people on the beach for the Sunday market.
The productive fishing window came just before sunset.
After all, I had only two barramundi's strikings for the weekend.
